How to Fix Poor Posture

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, as many as 90% of Australians suffer from back pain at some point in their lives, while an estimated 1.8 million Australians are currently dealing with back pain. Your posture is a big factor in whether you will experience back pain, and improving your posture will minimize your risk of back pain.

Poor posture is most often caused by a misalignment of the spine. When the vertebrae are misaligned, pain, muscle tightness, joint swelling, nerve interference, and numbness or tingling can result.

A common pain

Injury can strike at any time, in any way, and can be caused by simply twisting slowly, or another seemingly insignificant movement. The resulting pain can be distressing and can cause problems for weeks, sometimes even months.

Not the best of stories, you can appreciate.

One of the most common injuries around is a problem with the knee. The Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry reports a startling statistic which shows the overall prevalence of this problem – knee surgery has increased 60% over the last ten years, and around 85,000 Australians have had knee surgery as a result of an injury or wear and tear.

Preventing Falls with Chiropractic

For children, falling is a normal part of growing up and the consequence of a fall is usually little more than a skinned knee.  In elderly adults, however, falls again become common, though the injuries become more severe, with the most common fall-related injury being fractures.

Nontoxic Treatments for Migraines

The international healthcare group Bupa estimates that around two million Australians suffer from migraines, making migraines the most common neurological conditions. Experts blame the modern unhealthy lifestyle that many people lead, with poor diet, chronic stress, irregular schedules, and pollution.

Many sufferers point to specific triggers, including bright light, loud noise, smoke and certain other smells, hormone fluctuations, certain foods and food additives, including MSG, nitrates, tyramine, chocolate, nuts, dairy products, or fermented foods. Some sufferers go to great lengths to avoid their triggers, which reduces the frequency of migraines in some sufferers, but rarely eliminates them.

Taking the first step to pain-free movement

When you experience pain in the lower back, knees, hips, and ankles, what do you put it down to?

Do you ever consider that it may be a problem with your feet?

The fact of the matter is that our feet bear the brunt of our weight, fluctuating or not, throughout our lives, so it’s no wonder that occasionally we experience pain or a problem in the area, which can then radiate to other parts of the body.

You might not have given any thought to this before, but think about it now – your feet are complicated things, bending, rotating, flexing, moving constantly, and are made up of many structures, such as 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 ligaments, including 20 interconnecting muscles – and that’s in each foot!

Natural, Non-invasive, Hands On Care – The Philosophy of Chiropractic

shutterstock_94281586The philosophy behind all Chiropractic care is that each Chiropractor seeks to provide a complete system of wellness-based care that focuses on the prevention of disease and the promotion of optimal health.

Wellness Care versus Medical Care

Medical care seeks to treat the symptoms of pain, discomfort, illness and disease. Conventional ‘allopathic’ Medical practitioners treat their patients by providing medication or surgery or a combination of the two. Chiropractors on the other hand provide Wellness care to activate the body’s own natural healing ability. This is achieved by restoring balance and correcting any problems that are interfering with normal function. Only natural, non-invasive, hands-on care is used – no medications or surgery of any kind.

Of course, it is important to state that a Chiropractor’s extensive training enables him to identify problems that his skills can help but equally importantly, he will never seek to treat a problem where Chiropractic is not indicated. In these cases, the patient is always, referred for care from a healthcare practitioner in the appropriate specialty. (more…)
